It’s been a long time since a destination surprised me quite like Panama did, not just in how much beauty and depth it offers, but in how much we managed to see and do in just a few days.

This wasn’t just a vacation. It was a whirlwind of color, culture, and connection. From elegance in the city to breezy overwater bliss on a private island.

Here’s a look at this unforgettable journey:

🏙 First Stop: Casco Viejo, Panama City

Our adventure began in Panama City’s historic Casco Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage district that’s all charm and character. We checked into the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo, a standout hotel that delivers French luxury with a Panamanian soul.

From its intricate tiled floors to its lush central courtyard and panoramic rooftop views, the Sofitel is the perfect home base for exploring the city. We wandered cobblestone streets lined with colorful buildings, explored art galleries and boutiques, and soaked up rooftop cocktails with skyline views.

Bonus: it’s just a short drive from the Panama Canal, and yes, we made sure to witness this modern marvel in person.

🌴 Coastal Calm at Nayara Bocas del Toro

After a quick flight from the city, we landed in absolute paradise: Nayara Bocas del Toro.

This overwater resort, set on a private island in the Caribbean, is one of the most magical places I’ve ever stayed and one of the few resorts to offer Overwater Bungalows!

Our days here looked something like this:

●     Waking up in an overwater villa with a private saltwater plunge pool

●     Boating between remote islands with crystal-clear waters

●     Enjoying meals in open-air dining spaces with sunset views

●     Lounging in hammocks, sipping fresh cocktails, and just… breathing

●     A spa treatment right on your bungalow’s deck with just the sound of waves

The resort’s design is sleek, natural, and soothing — but what really stood out was the warmth of the team and the deep sense of peace that settles in the moment you arrive.

🌺 A Journey with Meaning

One of the highlights of this trip was a visit to a nearby Ngäbe-Buglé Indigenous village. We spent time learning about their way of life, meeting community members, and understanding the importance of preserving these cultural connections.

It was a grounding, emotional experience, and a powerful reminder that the best travel always offers more than just a pretty view.

Another highly recommended experience was sailing to the Urraca Monkey Island Eco

Resort where multiple species of rescued and rehabilitated monkeys live, play and roam freely. We were able to hold, pet and feed the monkeys under the supervision of the founder, Francine Roy. A MUST for animal lovers!

✨ Final Impressions

From the rooftop bars at Hotel La Compañia, to quiet courtyard mornings, to jungle-draped boat rides in Bocas, this trip was one for the books.

Panama offers a rare kind of balance: history and modernity, culture and luxury, adventure and stillness. Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, a group getaway, or simply a soulful solo escape, this is a destination I can’t recommend highly enough.

If Panama is calling your name, I’d love to help craft a trip that’s as memorable and meaningful as this one was for me.
